Departing in October 2021, our Agriculture in South Australia & Kangaroo Island tour is an exciting journey exploring a wide variety of technical visits, tourist visits and cultural & culinary highlights. See for yourself just how South Australian farmers continue to thrive despite some of them living and working in one of the most arid parts of both Australia and the world.
Unforgettable Flinders Ranges
Known for its ‘wine and roses’, start this South Australian tour with sightseeing in one of Australia’s most liveable cities, before making our way north towards Port Augusta and the Flinders Ranges. The Flinders Ranges are an absolute ‘
must do’ when visiting South Australia and guests will have ample opportunity to explore all the rugged beauty this ancient landscape has to offer. While Wilpena Pound might not have the same buzz to it that Uluru does, once you visit this natural amphitheatre of mountains, you’ll wonder how this place has stayed under the radar for so long! Covering eight times the area Uluru does and sitting 300 metres higher, this stunning Aussie landmark will take your breath away. While here, guests will be taken just north of the Flinders Ranges to learn about livestock management in a low rainfall environment and meet with graziers who will share what they do to drought proof their properties.
Family Farming on Bungaree Station
From the Flinders Ranges, guests will head south to the picturesque Clare Valley. A rural region with restored heritage towns and sandstone buildings, guests will spend the afternoon at historic Bungaree Station. Once a bustling sheep station with over 100,000 merino sheep, today Bungaree is a mixed farming enterprise run by descendants of the original founder. During our two-night farm stay here, guests will have the opportunity to chat all things farming with the owners and get a taste of what life might have been like for our earliest pioneers. While here in the Clare Valley, guests will explore the local area further, including a visit to a family’s mixed farming operation.
Beautiful Barossa
A short drive away from the Clare Valley is the absolutely beautiful Barossa Valley, which also happens to be one of the world’s greatest wine and food regions! Our days here in the Barossa will be spent sampling the local food and visiting Yalumba winery and cooperage, the only operating on-site cooperage to be found in the Southern Hemisphere.
Accommodation here is located at Lyndoch Hill Retreat, which boasts one of the largest rose gardens in the world. With over 30,000 roses, guests are invited to relax and stroll the gardens at their own leisure, before departing back towards the coast via Normanville.
An Island Getaway
Wrapping up this sensational tour, guests will be ferried over to Kangaroo Island to spend the next three days and nights here in South Australia’s own piece of paradise. Home to just 4,400 people, Kangaroo Island is a haven of small, innovative businesses and has a fabulous array of foods and wines to feast on during your stay. Meet with some of these innovative primary producers and perhaps you’ll have the opportunity to sample their delicious wares. But Kangaroo Island isn’t just all about the award-winning produce! Known as a true wildlife sanctuary, guests will be privy to amazing wildlife experiences and spectacular scenery as we explore Flinders Chase National Park. Ravished by the 2019/2020 Summer bushfires, the park has now re-opened and it’s here we’ll see the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch in all their natural, rugged glory.
Bill Dunlop, Tour Escort
This fantastic 13-day tour concludes back in Adelaide but not without another winery lunch at McLaren Vale snuck in for good measure! Quadrant Australia’s tour escort extraordinaire, Bill Dunlop will lead this fabulous tour of South Australia and guests will appreciate Bill’s extensive knowledge of Australian agriculture, particularly in the beef industry.
