With over 40,000 Aussie cattle producers and 28 million cattle roaming our Aussie soils, it’s little wonder Beef Expo Australia has become the world’s greatest beef cattle expo. This weeklong event celebrates all facets of the Australian beef industry and is instrumental in facilitating new trade and export opportunities while showcasing more than 500 businesses, delivering the latest cattle related research and providing live cooking demonstrations to appreciate the quality and flavour of our fabulous Australian beef.
OFFICIAL BEEF EXPO TOUR OPERATOR
Since Beef Expo’s inception back in 1988, Quadrant Australia has been the official tour operator associated with this triennial event. In 2021, Quadrant Australia is proud to offer a 5-day pre-tour and 4-day post-tour around Beef Expo for both Australian and International cattle producers to enjoy. Like all of our tours, these 2021 pre and post tours are curated with the perfect mix of agricultural, technical and tourist visits. Guests will gain a deeper understanding of the Queensland cattle industry as well as meet with like-minded cattle producers.
5 DAY PRE TOUR (28 APRIL – 2 MAY)
Our five-day pre tour kicks off in Brisbane before making the trek to Rockhampton. The first agricultural visit begins on the Darling Downs, a world-famous cropping area on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. The Darling Downs is also the centre of Australia’s feedlot industry and while here we visit a feedlot that prepares a variety of cattle for domestic and export markets. Guests will learn all about their quality assurance schemes and how these impact on management techniques, pen design and layout, ration mixing and handling, shade, effluent control and pad maintenance.
WORLD FAMOUS ROMA SALEYARDS
From Dalby we head west towards Roma and the famous Roma Saleyards. The Roma Saleyards is Australia’s largest livestock selling complex with over 400,000 cattle passing through each year. After Roma we continue on to Arcadia Valley, voted some of the best cattle country in Australia! It’s here guests will observe some detailed grazing management, enjoy lunch with leading local producers, observe their operation and have the opportunity to question them about their management decisions.
AMAZING GRAZING MANAGEMENT
As we make our way to Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway, we will inspect more detailed grazing management involved with ‘Cell Grazing’. Cell grazing or time-controlled grazing is a form of rotational grazing where small paddocks are heavily stocked for short periods and we’ll see some very well managed cattle herds. Later in the day we arrive in Rockhampton, the Beef Cattle Capital of Australia and host city for Australia’s Beef Expo. Guests will be escorted to their pre-arranged accommodation where Quadrant Australia has secured some fantastic deals and guests will be free to explore the Beef Expo at their own leisure.
4 DAY POST TOUR (8 MAY – 11 MAY)
Our four-day post Expo tour departs Rockhampton with a visit to a Brahman cattle station. Here guests will be given the opportunity to see why this hardy breed has transformed the beef cattle industry across northern Australia. We’ll also visit a cattle property where hundreds of acres of man-made swamps have been developed to help extend the cattle grazing potential into the dry season.
MACKAY HINTERLAND
Day two sees guests visiting the Mackay Hinterland and will feature prominent cattle properties and properties with innovative grazing management. The cattle found here will be mostly high-grade Bos Indicus breeds and the value of selected cross breeding will be discussed.
TIME TO RELAX
The final two nights of this tour are spent in the breathtaking Whitsunday region with a full day cruise to the Great Barrier Reef included in your itinerary. Under-water coral viewing, snorkelling and lunch are all included, and scuba diving is available for all those qualified. A farewell dinner at the resort provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on the events, sights and sounds of the week just been & say goodbye to the lifelong friends you’ve made along the way.
