New for 2022 is our tour to the Queensland Channel Country, where Sir Sidney Kidman, the legendary Cattle King, carved out an enormous cattle empire. This is one of the most sparsely populated areas of Outback Queensland, but what it lacks in people it makes up for in cattle. Fed by rivers, including the Georgina, Diamantina and Cooper Creek, the channel country is a region of braided channels that come to life after rain, producing rich cattle-fattening pastures.
Enjoy a cool drink whilst watching the spectacular sunset from the top of the famous Big Red Sand Dune. Standing at 40 metres in height, Big Red is the first of 1,140 parallel dunes in the Simpson Desert. A scenic flight from Birdsville – taking in the town, the Racecourse, Big Red, the Channel Country of the Diamantina River and Eyre Creek, Goyder Lagoon and the Simpson Desert and Sturt Stony Desert – is bound to be a highlight!
The tour commences and finishes in Longreach, home of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, and includes visits to both company and privately-owned cattle stations, remote and unique outback towns –Winton, Boulia and Bedourie, plus two nights at the iconic Birdsville Hotel. Join well-known industry personality and renowned Quadrant Agtour leader, Bill Dunlop, for this unique and very interesting tour. With stunning landscapes, endless horizons and rich red sand dunes, this remote region also has amazing birdlife and once visited, will never be forgotten.
